The story
Most visitors pay $25 to shuffle through James Deering's grand Italianate villa and clipped bayfront gardens on the east side of the property. But right across South Miami Avenue sits Vizcaya Village—the estate’s original 1910s working farm support compound, where the staff lived, crops were grown, and livestock were kept to make the mansion self-sufficient.
On select evenings, the museum opens this usually overlooked cluster of historic stucco buildings for a free, open-air night market. Instead of quiet museum docents, you get more than 40 local artisans, food vendors, live DJs, and evening cultural programming filling the village courtyards after dark.
It is one of the few ways to hang out on Vizcaya's historic grounds at night without paying museum admission. Just keep the calendar in mind: the market takes a hiatus during the height of Miami’s summer heat and resumes every autumn.
