Tijon Miami Fragrance Lab

A working perfume lab with over 300 raw fragrance oils lined up on shelves like a chemist's pharmacy — you're handed a blotter strip and told to start sniffing until something clicks, then a "nose" walks you through building top, heart, and base notes from scratch.

The story

Tijon Fragrance Lab on Ponce de Leon Boulevard dispenses with retail perfume marketing to focus entirely on the raw liquid. Inside, shelves hold over 300 individual fragrance oils lined up like a working chemist's pharmacy. You aren't browsing finished commercial brands off a counter; you're stepping behind the bench to handle the raw ingredients yourself.

Guided by an in-house perfumer, you deconstruct scent architecture into top, heart, and base notes. You learn how volatile citrus or herbal top notes flash off quickly, how middle notes anchor the main accord, and how heavy resins or woods bind the liquid to your skin for hours. The lab treats perfumery as a tactile, drop-by-drop craft rather than a corporate spectator sport.

What it's like

You'll pull on a white lab coat, take a seat at a workstation, and start dipping paper blotter strips into candidate vials. The real challenge is pacing your nose to prevent scent fatigue as you narrow down hundreds of oils to a cohesive blend. Once you refine your formula on paper and skin, you measure your chosen oils drop-by-drop into a cylinder, alcohol-dilute the mixture, and bottle it yourself. Book your station in advance online—walk-ins are not accommodated.

The move: Book the 90-minute Date Night / Mix & Match session together, take turns testing oils on each other's wrists, and argue your way to two different bottled scents you each designed and take home.

Good to know

Do I need to book a session in advance?

Yes. Sessions such as the 90-minute Date Night or Mix & Match workshops require an advance reservation due to limited station space in the lab.

What do I get to take home?

You walk out with a full bottle of the bespoke perfume or cologne you formulated and mixed yourself, along with your formula saved in their system for future reorders.

How does the 90-minute Date Night workshop work?

You and a partner take turns testing fragrance oils on each other's wrists, evaluate top, heart, and base notes together, and each construct a custom bottled fragrance to take home.
