Wichita Street, these guided night floats bypass the usual sunrise-to-sunset rule, letting a small fleet of paddlers take over the river after hours.
Instead of standard daytime river traffic, you are outfitted in glow sticks and safety lights as dusk turns into proper night. The floating parade moves upstream toward the iconic 44-foot steel Keeper of the Plains sculpture at the confluence of the Big and Little Arkansas Rivers. On select nights, the float is timed to reach the point right as the ring of fire pots flares up at the base of the sculpture, turning the dark water orange while the downtown buildings sit silent in the background.

Show up at the Boathouse ramp while dusk is settling to get fitted for your vest, grab your paddle, and strap on your glow sticks. After a quick briefing on the dock, you launch into the calm, dark current. The paddle itself isn't an endurance race—just keep your core engaged rather than pulling entirely with your arms—and the water feels empty compared to daytime hours. After turning back at the illuminated Keeper sculpture and floating downriver, you haul out at the Boathouse dock and head straight up to the patio, where staff lay out a spread of desserts and snacks to close out the night.
The move: Strap on glow sticks, launch a tandem kayak from the Boathouse ramp at dusk, and paddle the river toward the lit Keeper of the Plains before splitting dessert on the patio.
