Thorn & Moon

A converted garage apartment on 24th Street stuffed with occult supplies, Peculiar Perfumes made in-house, and taxidermy insects mounted by local artist Daniel Cesspooch — opened deliberately on Friday the 13th as the spot Heights weirdos gravitated to after the Wilde Collection burned down in 2019.

The story

When Houston's beloved Heights curiosity sanctuary, the Wilde Collection, was destroyed in a 2019 fire, the neighborhood's esoteric edge needed somewhere new to land. Thorn & Moon filled the void, opening its doors on a deliberate Friday the 13th inside a converted garage apartment tucked off 24th Street.

Step inside the small footprint and you're surrounded by apothecary jars, tarot decks, and bottles of in-house blended Peculiar Perfumes. The curio cases feature pinned taxidermy insects mounted by local artist Daniel Cesspooch, resting alongside artisan ritual wares and stock from niche makers like Blackened Teeth and Ritualcravt. If you look closely between the displays, you'll likely spot Lucyfur, the shop cat who holds court over the room.

What it's like

Visiting feels less like browsing a store and more like stepping into a private collector's attic workshop. Because space is tight inside the converted apartment unit, you'll be weaving closely around other visitors examining framed beetles or smelling custom herb blends. You can have a herb-infused candle poured to order while you browse, or get details on their larger monthly Magickal Market pop-ups.

The move: Browse the taxidermy and curio cases together, pick out a small oddity to split as a shared souvenir, and have a custom herb-infused candle poured to order while you wait.
