The story
Tucked into Suite 6 on West Main Street—right behind Bighorn Buds—Bozeman Breakout doesn't advertise itself with flashy neon. Founders Dylan McDowell and Christy Jacobson opened this outfit in 2018, building out puzzle-dense rooms designed to test whether your group actually functions under real time pressure.
You aren't just untangling padlocks on a wooden chest. In 'The Heist,' you're cracking vault security and disabling alarms to lift a diamond before a 60-minute countdown hits zero. 'The Simulation' pushes you into a 2076 sci-fi nightmare where you have an hour to break out of a mind-imprisonment cell, while 'The Hex Files' sets your squad up as FBI agents hunting an occult killer in a remote cabin. You get an hour, a camera watching your every move, and zero outside lifelines.
What it's like
Show up 15 to 20 minutes before your booked slot, because if you run late, those lost minutes come right off your 60-minute game clock. Your phones and personal belongings go straight into storage lockers before you enter—no sneaky search engines allowed inside. A dedicated game master monitors your group via closed-circuit feeds, dropping cryptically timed hints when your crew hits an impasse. Stick to a squad of three or four if you want enough room to move without tripping over each other.
