The story
Tucked inside an industrial strip mall off East 68th Avenue, Putters Wild looks like a standard commercial bay from the asphalt parking lot. Step past the counter, though, and you walk straight out of Midtown Anchorage into a blacklight ocean floor. It operates as the city's only 3D mini-golf course, wrapping 18 holes in fluorescent murals painted to trick your depth perception the second you slide on a pair of paper 3D glasses.
In a city where winter darkness lasts for eighteen hours and summer nights never truly arrive, the windowless indoor space acts as a total light lock. The outside weather completely disappears beneath the UV bulbs while you navigate putts around glowing sea creatures. To keep the outing going after the final hole, the space also houses VR booths running HTC Vive setups, coin-op arcade cabinets, air cannons, and trampoline basketball. You didn't hear it from us, but when Alaskan winter gets oppressive or the midnight sun throws off your sleep schedule, this neon box is where locals duck in to recalibrate.
What it's like
When you walk into the suite, you grab a putter, a glowing ball, and cardboard 3D glasses at the counter. Wearing the glasses forces the neon sharks, deep-sea jellyfish, and floating floor hazards into distinct visual layers, turning simple short putts into a weird test of spatial awareness. The course moves fast, though weekend afternoons draw birthday parties that can stall the tighter holes. If you want a low-key round, show up on a weekday evening, finish 18 holes, and then settle any ties on the arcade games or in the VR booths.
