The story
Before Dimond Skateland existed, Carolyn and Ed Caldwell were already running the old Anchorage Roller Rink on Arctic Boulevard—a place opened back in 1963 by Carolyn's father, Albert Waddell [1.1.1]. When the Caldwells opened Dimond Skateland off Homer Drive in 1984, they brought over one key piece of local lore: the giant, oversized roller skate prop that used to sit outside the old rink. That giant skate still stands on its post outside today, pointing you toward Anchorage's last surviving quad-skating sanctuary.
Inside, little has succumbed to modern overhaul. The Caldwell family built a rink floor meant for real quad skates, hung the disco lights, and let the era sit. While other cities knocked down their rinks, Dimond Skateland doubled down, eventually adding indoor bumper cars and a laser tag arena into the mix without stripping away the retro timber and carpet vibe.
You won't find sleek apps or digital ticket kiosks here. The schedule stays intentionally sparse, restricted to select public sessions a few days a week while private parties take up the rest.
