The story
You don't expect a concrete fortress built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane to house the fever dreams of a Spanish surrealist, but waterfront St. Pete demands serious engineering. The building is essentially a impenetrable concrete shell designed to protect irreplaceable oil paintings from sea surges, but right down the middle, the structure ruptures. A free-form geodesic glass bubble named "The Enigma"—assembled from 1,062 individual triangular glass panes—erupts out of the concrete like a frozen splash.
Inside sits the largest collection of Salvador Dalí’s work anywhere outside of Spain. The real draw here is the scale: six of his massive masterworks hang in the galleries, detailed oil canvasses that force you to back up across the room to spot the hidden double images embedded in the brushwork.
