A sliding door inside Rumba, Capitol Hill's cane-spirits bar, is the only way into this tiny undersea-themed cocktail lair that gives tiki a dark Pacific Northwest makeover. An enormous tentacled sea creature named Kiki hangs suspended overhead while drinks arrive in skulls, rice cookers, and the occasional repurposed Amazon box, often glowing or smoking with dry ice. Parties are capped at six to keep the room claustrophobic and immersive in the best way.
The story
To find Inside Passage, you first have to walk into Rumba, Capitol Hill’s high-ceilinged cane-spirits tavern on Pike Street. You aren't staying in the main room, though. Once your name is cleared, you are slipped through a sliding panel hidden in the wall, stepping directly into a dark, claustrophobic pocket of Pacific Northwest deep-sea weirdness.
Instead of standard Polynesian pop, the space is built like a moody, submerged ghost ship rotting at the bottom of the Puget Sound. Suspended from the ceiling directly above the tables is Kiki, a massive, glowering sea creature with tentacles wrapping through the gloom. The cocktail program leans heavily into theatrical presentation: your rum drink might arrive smoking with dry ice inside a ceramic skull, bubbling out of a miniature rice cooker, or served out of a repurposed, glowing Amazon shipping box.
What it's like
Expect a tight, hyper-controlled room where dry-ice haze hovers over closely packed booths. You must check in at Rumba's front host stand, where you'll be escorted through the secret passage. Reservations are essential—with a strict hard cap of six people per party, spontaneous walk-in spots inside the passage are rare, though you can always wait out a opening with a cane spirit out front in Rumba.
