Entry No. 17 — the Salt Lake City file — filed under: float tank
Float Spa 19
A former retail storefront on State Street hides individual float pods and a two-person "float suite" tank behind its doors, where you strip down and drift on 10+ inches of body-temperature Epsom-salt water in total dark and silence.
The story
From the outside, 1212 South State Street looks like any other pragmatic commercial storefront along Salt Lake City's main north-south asphalt artery. Step inside, however, and the traffic rumble drops off entirely. You are handed earplugs, escorted to a private room, and instructed to strip down completely before stepping into ten-plus inches of water saturated with hundreds of pounds of Epsom salt.
Warmed to exact human body temperature, the dense brine suspends you effortlessly, dissolving the boundary between your skin and the water. Float Spa 19 runs both single pods and a rare two-person float suite—a double-sized tank that lets two people drift side by side in total lightlessness and complete silence while the rest of the city grinds along outside.
What it's like
You'll start with a quick rinse in your private room shower to strip off oils before climbing into the tank. Once inside, you control the heavy lid and internal light switch; if total pitch-black sensory deprivation feels too intense, you can leave the light glowing soft blue or prop the hatch open. Afterwards, rinse the salt crust off in the room's shower, then drift into their quiet tea lounge to drink herbal tea while your brain slowly recalibrates to spatial awareness.
The move: Book the Float Suite Couples session — you and a partner float side by side in the same tank, then decompress together in the herbal-tea lounge afterward.

Good to know
Do I float naked or wear a swimsuit?
You float completely naked in your own locked, private room. Clothing creates unwelcome friction and tactile distraction against your skin in the tank.
Can two people float in the same tank at the same time?
Yes. While individual pods are standard, Float Spa 19 operates a multi-person float suite specifically designed for couples to float together in one larger basin.
What if I get claustrophobic inside the pod?
You have complete control over the tank hatch and interior light switch at all times, meaning you can float with the door propped open or lights on until you get comfortable.
What are their operating hours?
They operate Monday and Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, and Tuesdays from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
