Entry No. 20 — the Memphis file — filed under: night market
Asian Night Market — Memphis Agricenter
Now in its fourth year, this Vietnamese American Community-run market takes over the Agricenter fairgrounds at dusk with 100+ vendor stalls of Asian street food, a live band, an eating competition, and — as night falls — a Mid-Autumn Lantern Parade.
The story
Once a year, the sprawling agricultural fairgrounds of Agricenter International—usually reserved for farm expos and consignment sales—get overrun by steam, charcoal smoke, and red paper lanterns. Organized by the local Vietnamese American Community, the Asian Night Market converts the outdoor lots along Walnut Grove Road into an open-air night market modeled after the evening bazaars of East and Southeast Asia.
In its fourth annual iteration, the late-September event fills the outdoor grounds with over 100 vendor stalls serving skewers hot off charcoal grills, boba, and street food snacks. Between food runs, the crowd packs around the stage for eating contests and live music—including sets from Japanese rock band KAZHA—before daylight gives way to string lights and paper lanterns for the Mid-Autumn Lantern Parade.
What it's like
Arrive right around dusk on September 26 or 27, 2026. Parking spreads across the outdoor grass and gravel lots at the Agricenter fairgrounds, so skip any shoes you care about keeping pristine. Lines for the popular food stalls form fast, so grab your skewers and drinks first, then snag a spot near the stage before the string lights take over and the lantern parade moves through the crowd.
The move: Arrive as the sun goes down on September 26 or 27, 2026, eat your way through the street-food stalls, then join the lantern parade once the string lights and paper lanterns take over from daylight.
