The story

You are not stepping into a sanitized Hollywood gift shop selling plastic novelty cauldrons. Originally opened in the 1960s by George Denby as Panpipes Magickal Marketplace, this East Hollywood anchor stands as one of the oldest continuously operating occult shops in the country. It hasn't survived six decades by pandering to tourists—it survived a 1984 firebombing, multiple lease relocations, and the steady gentrification of Santa Monica Boulevard by serving actual working practitioners.

The shop’s modern history reads like a bit of secret local lore: in 1995, actress Fairuza Balk bought the store while filming *The Craft*, running it for six years before handing the keys to current owners Vicky Adams and Jymie Darling in 2001. Under their watch, the shop was reborn as Pan's Apothika, maintaining its strict allegiance to traditional esoteric craft rather than pop-culture trends.

Inside, floor-to-ceiling shelves hold raw botanical jars, custom ritual oils, candles, and traditional tools of magick. A few doors down at 4852B Santa Monica Boulevard, the shop operates a separate space called the Annexe—a dedicated sanctuary reserved for Sunday moon circles, sound baths, rituals, and hands-on esoteric classes.
