The story
Before NoDa became a grid of luxury apartments and generic taprooms, artists Ruth Ava Lyons and Paul Sires were actually building the neighborhood's creative DNA. Starlight on 22nd is their direct pushback against Charlotte's creep of slick homogeny. Tucked onto East 22nd Street where NoDa bleeds into Optimist Park, it functions less like a commercial bar and more like a private salon where the original arts community still holds court.
QC Nerve dubbed it Charlotte's "Best Hidden Gem," but calling it a bar misses the point. Inside, the walls operate as an active gallery for local painters, packed with funky, retro decor that feels salvaged from an eccentric collector's house party. You don't come here for snobby mixology grandstanding; you come to drink a craft beer or a mango cider while surrounded by the actual people keeping Charlotte's grassroots culture alive.
