Nebel's Alley Night Market

This open-air evening market pops up under the string lights of South End's historic Design Center, transforming a brick alleyway into a bustling bazaar of local artisans, vintage curators, and indie makers.

The story

In 2018, event organizer Esther & Elsa Retail launched Nebel's Alley Night Market inside South End's historic Design Center with a clever secondary motive: giving hungry crowds something to do during the grueling wait times at surrounding hot spots like Superica and Barcelona Wine Bar.

Tucked into Tompkins and Nebel Alleys right beneath the iconic Design Center water tower, the market transforms a former industrial brick alleyway into a moonlit bazaar. On second Saturdays from April through November, over 30 local artisans, vintage curators, and oddity makers set up shop under hanging lanterns while vinyl DJs or live musicians play.

What it's like

Expect narrow brick passageways filled with ambient string light, dog-walkers, vinyl tunes, and a rotating mix of 30-plus stalls selling everything from hand-poured candles to vintage finds. Dinner crowds spill over from nearby restaurants, so the narrow alley gets tightly packed after dusk. Take the LYNX Blue Line to the East/West Blvd station to dodge South End garage rates, or park at the 100 W Worthington deck. If you bring your dog on a summer night, feel the asphalt first—it holds thermal heat long after sunset.

The move: Grab a late-night taco at Superica, then wander the alleyway together to browse handmade jewelry, oddities, and art while a local DJ spins vinyl under the night sky.
