The story
For over fifty years, 4712 West State Street was 20th Century Lanes—a neighborhood bowling alley until it folded in June 2017. Instead of letting the 20,000-square-foot strip-mall cavern get carved up into corporate retail, local owners Scott and Tammy Stevens spent a year gutting and re-engineering the building. They cleared out the lanes, installed a continuous skate floor, built a DJ booth, and opened Treasure Valley Skate in 2018, securing its spot as Boise's only dedicated roller rink.
The structural footprint still holds old-school bowling-alley proportions if you look closely, but the energy inside runs strictly on quad wheels, overhead lighting, and arcade cabinets. Set inside the Collister Shopping Center off State Street, Scott and Tammy kept the place intentionally unpretentious: air hockey tables, foosball, rental quads, and a snack bar baking homemade pizza. You didn't hear it from us, but in a city swapping its vintage spaces for polished development, this floor stays stubbornly grounded in authentic throwback culture.
What it's like
Pull into the Collister Shopping Center lot, step past the unassuming State Street storefront, and you are immediately met with overhead lights and the low roar of wheels hitting the floor. Public sessions operate on strict, pre-set time blocks, so if you show up unannounced between scheduled sessions, you will be waiting in your car until the next doors open. Grab rental quads at the front counter (socks are non-negotiable), catch your rhythm on the floor, and cool off at the perimeter with air hockey and a hot slice from the snack bar.
The move: Lace up rental quads for a hand-in-hand lap session, then cool off over homemade pizza and a round of air hockey.
