The story
You don't enter Crystals, Candles, & Cauldrons from the main strip of 36th Street. Instead, you slip around the side of Historic Hampden Hall on Roland Avenue and head toward the rear parking lot. Family-owned by Shelley Klimm and her daughter Caitlin since relocating from Dundalk in 2008, the shop doubled its footprint in 2014 to fit what has become one of the densest metaphysical inventories in the mid-Atlantic.
Rather than relying on modern minimalism, the space is intentionally packed wall-to-wall. You'll find over a hundred varieties of tumbled stones meticulously categorized in open-faced bins alongside raw mineral specimens, chime candles, seven-day glass jar candles, Hyssop water, conjure oils, and athames. Vintage talking boards hang along the entry corridor—a subtle nod to Baltimore's long-standing connection to spirit board history.
What keeps locals returning is the zero-snobbery atmosphere. Whether you are dropping in to buy a single dollar stone, seeking specific Hoodoo washes, or scheduling an animal communication or tarot reading, the owners run the space as a practical, working supply room for practitioners and curious regulars alike.

Approach from Roland Avenue around the back of the brick Hampden Hall building and look for the rear entrance sign. Resist the temptation to pull into the back parking lot—those spots are reserved strictly for the apartment tenants upstairs, and you will get towed; park at a meter along 36th Street instead. Inside, expect a thick aroma of burning incense, low lighting, and heavy wooden shelves packed with labeled jars, stones, and herbs. The staff leave you alone to browse the crystal bins at your own pace, but they are quick to pull down hard-to-find ritual oils or explain stone origins if you ask.
The move: Pick out a mystery crystal or a custom-scented candle together, then sit on the patio of a nearby Hampden cafe to read each other's tarot cards.
