The story
Tucked away on Mount Vernon Street, this 22,000-square-foot facility operates as Wichita’s member-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit maker sanctuary. It lacks the sanitized gloss of a commercial art studio, functioning instead as a collective workshop where local artisans, hackers, and builders pool resources to maintain specialized equipment that no sane person could fit inside a residential garage.
The floor plan is carved into dedicated functional zones: woodworking, metalworking, electronics, screen printing, textiles, jewelry, and a ceramics shop that spans over 1,100 square feet on its own—complete with wheel-throwing setups, hand-building tables, and a dedicated kiln room for glaze experiments. Member-volunteers handle the day-to-day operations, maintain the machinery, and teach the rotating class schedule.
