Baltic Sauna

Tucked away in a quiet Cary backyard, this family-built, wood-fired sauna offers an authentic Baltic and Finnish experience with real white-cedar logs and steam created by ladling water over hot stones.

The story

Drive down Brookgreen Drive past the manicured lawns of suburban Cary, and you would never suspect a hand-built timber sauna is tucked behind the property line. This isn't a dry infrared panel inside a strip-mall gym. It is a traditional Baltic retreat constructed from white-cedar logs, centered around a real wood-burning stove loaded with heavy stones.

The entire setup is designed around old-world contrast therapy. You ladle water over the hot rocks to throw dense cedar steam into the room, raising the heat until you can't take it anymore. Outside, an outdoor gazebo lounge holds cold bucket plunges to shock your nervous system back to life, along with hot mint tea to sip while you reset in the open air.

What it's like

You will pull up to a residential street, walk through to the backyard, and step into a self-contained private retreat. For your two-hour reserved block, the wood-fired hot room and gazebo lounge are entirely yours. You'll rotate between intense log-burning heat, outdoor cold bucket douses, and sipping tea under the trees. Bring swimwear, sandals, and two towels—one to sit on in the white-cedar room and one to dry off.

The move: Book a private 2-hour session for just the two of you, rotating between the intense heat of the wood-burning hot room and a cold bucket plunge in the outdoor gazebo lounge, complete with complimentary hot mint tea.
