The story
From the quiet residential sidewalk of SE 16th Avenue in Sellwood, there is no sign indicating you’ve reached Bible Club. What looks like an unassuming neighborhood house is actually what creator Ryk envisioned as a pre-Prohibition museum you can drink inside. Step through the entrance and you are dropped into an obsessively detailed vintage time capsule—pressed tin ceilings, stained glass catching the low amber glow, and an aesthetic hovering right at the boundary between an old Sunday-school classroom and a lavish heirloom-filled parlor.
Every lamp, piece of woodwork, and glassware item feels painstakingly salvaged from early 20th-century estates before 1920 shut down American drinking culture. There are no modern bar props or synthetic shortcuts here. Drinks are stirred and shaken behind a heavy antique counter, then handed to patrons sinking into period upholstery. It doesn't feel like a commercial speakeasy gimmick so much as an eccentric relative's off-limits sitting room where the lock on the liquor cabinet was broken years ago.
Out back, the property opens into Revival—a partially covered yard bar positioned directly behind the main building. While the interior parlor stays dark, intimate, and hushed, the patio provides a casual open-air overflow space that frequently hosts live musical performances and DJ sets when night falls.
What it's like
Put 6716 SE 16th Avenue into your directions, because you won't get a illuminated sign to guide you. The bar operates on a strict no-reservation, first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early on a weeknight gives you the best chance at snatching a plush seat in the interior sitting room. If the main parlor is fully occupied, head straight around back to the Revival patio—it's partially sheltered, distinctly laid-back, and serves the same craft cocktail line-up alongside occasional live music.
The move: Walk up unannounced (first-come, first-served, no reservation), order off the ever-changing seasonal cocktail list, and finish the night on the outdoor Revival patio if there's live music.
