The story
If you remember the old Marvel Bar, you already know the footprint of this basement. Tucked beneath chef Daniel del Prado’s Argentinian steakhouse, Porzana, Flora Room took over the North Loop subterranean spot that previously anchored Minneapolis's hidden bar scene. But instead of stark walls, you descend into a moody, dimly lit lair where living greenery drapes over dark leather booths and climbs behind the bar. To enter, you have to find the unmarked, earthy-green door down a small rear staircase behind 200 North 1st Street.
The space leans entirely into its dark botanical premise, feeling equal parts subterranean greenhouse and forest witch retreat. The cocktail menu reflects the steakhouse upstairs with heavy South American influences, featuring drinks built around herbal complexity and Patagonian spirits—like the Evita, which pairs local botanical liquor with chamomile and honey. It is quiet, shadowed, and designed to make you lose track of whatever is happening upstairs.

Head behind the building on North 1st Street and look for the stairs leading down to a green door with no sign. Once inside, the lighting drops to near-pitch and living foliage takes over the room. Flora Room is strictly first-come, first-served for the 21-and-over crowd, opening daily at 5 PM. Prime booths fill up fast on weekends, so aim for a late-night weeknight visit if you want to slip in without waiting on the stairs.
The move: Descend the stairs for a late-night drink and order the 'Evita'—a botanical cocktail made with Patagonian spirits, chamomile, and honey—while sitting under the hanging plants.
