The story

Most mass-market timber candles are blended in suburban factories by people who have never set foot in an Idaho forest. Ransom and Sarah Storm got tired of burning candles that claimed to smell like the Northwest but smelled like synthetic air freshener. They started hiking out into the woods around Coeur d'Alene with gathering bags, picking actual pine needles, sagebrush, and juniper berries to bring back to their workbench. They tested essential and fragrance oils side-by-side against raw forest cuttings until they hit formulas that actually matched real trail air.

That obsession lives inside Studio 3 at 211 East Lakeside Avenue, a compact 400-square-foot shop where every batch is hand-poured with natural soy wax into recycled-glass vessels. You won't find sugary mall fragrances here. Their signature scent is an unlikely, earthy collision of tobacco and pine that smells like fresh wood cutting through lingering campfire smoke.

Instead of just picking a jar off the shelf, you can step up to the workbench yourself during their evening candle-making classes. You'll work through the oil lineup, mix a custom fragrance profile from scratch—or battle over a shared blend with a date—and pour your own custom candle.
