The story

On the surface, 618 North Wallace looks like another sleek design office tucked into Bozeman's northside industrial corridor. Step inside, though, and you'll find a venue operating in the weird boundary zone between an experimental fine art gallery and a smart-home integration laboratory. Born from a collaboration between SAV Digital Environments and Minarik Architecture, Medium Gallery ditches the sterilizing white-cube walls of traditional galleries in favor of a fully wired, fully realized 'sensory living environment.'

Instead of hanging framed canvas under standard spotlight tracks, exhibitions here treat light itself as a material. Past shows like 'LIT' paired custom lighting controls directly with encaustic paintings from artists like Shima Shanti, sculptural ceramics, and low-slung designer furniture. The lighting program changes as you move through the rooms, altering how pigment and texture register on the eye so that the room feels more like a living installation than a sales floor.

You won't get hit with a high-pressure pitch for home automation when you walk in. While it serves as a working concept showroom, the space functions primarily as a quiet, locally run hideout for people obsessed with the precise intersection of physical space, high-tech illumination, and contemporary art.
