Crone's Cupboard

The story

Before Amazon existed and before Barnes & Noble opened a store in Boise, Jeanine—a Wicca teacher living on the Boise Bench—found a heavy old wooden cupboard sitting in her garage in 1994. She gave it a coat of paint, hauled it into her cottage's 150-square-foot front room, and stocked it with dried botanicals, incense, and hand-poured spell candles. A single tax refund funded three bookcases for whatever occult and pagan texts she could order in, and she opened for business on Thursday nights between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. while keeping her corporate day job. When the front room overflowed, she converted her one-car garage, quit her day job, and eventually moved the whole operation—cupboard included—into commercial retail space.

Decades later, at 712 North Orchard Street, Crone's Cupboard is Boise's oldest practicing New Age and witchcraft store. You won't find the polished corporate aesthetic of a mall crystal shop here. The shelves run deep with an extensive working apothecary of loose herbs and teas, alongside deity statues, cauldrons, incense, bone-casting items, and a serious occult book section.

In the back room, the shop hosts craft nights, tarot courses, and 'Psychic Sundays' on the first and second Sunday of each month, bringing in up to five readers at a time. It remains a genuine neighborhood fixture where regulars drop in to restock rare herbs, compare deck artwork, or consult staff on ritual supplies.
