Instead, this community woodshop functions as a shared garage where you can learn to peel curled ribbons of raw wood off a spinning block without blowing your budget. Instructors guide visitors through hands-on workshops covering specialized crafts like penmaking, bowl-turning on lathes, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and wood carving, alongside custom lumber milling and cutting services for personal builds.
What it's like
Expect an active, working shop floor filled with the hum of power tools and the scent of cut timber and pine resin. You will need to dress for labor: sturdy, closed-toe shoes are mandatory (sandals, Crocs, and flip-flops are strictly banned), long hair and beards must be tied back, and dangling jewelry or drawstrings are forbidden near the rotating machinery. Eye and ear protection are required, and class sizes are kept small for direct instruction. If you want to come back to use the machinery independently on your own schedule, you will need to take their mandatory Shop Orientation class first.
